6A First Round
Cedar Valley 16, Layton 8
Kaleb Davis scored seven goals and added an assist, leading No. 16 Cedar Valley to a dominant 16-8 victory over No. 17 Layton in the Class 6A first round. The Cedar Valley defense forced multiple turnovers, with standout efforts from Jake Huffaker and Nixon Caldwell. The win sends Cedar Valley to the second round, where they will face top-seeded Corner Canyon. Layton struggled to keep up and could not close the gap against Cedar Valley’s relentless play.
5A First Round
Spanish Fork 17, Fremont 2
No. 14 Spanish Fork overwhelmed No. 19 Fremont with a 17-2 win in the first round of the 5A state tournament. Senior Austin Olsen scored six goals, moving into the top 10 all-time for goals. Junior Caleb Grant contributed two goals and one assist, while freshman goalie Gage James posted an impressive 84% save percentage. Spanish Fork forced 20 takeaways, securing the victory. The Dons advance to face No. 3 Alta in the second round.
Pleasant Grove 10, Salem Hills 4
Pleasant Grove moved on in the 5A tournament with a 10-4 win over Salem Hills. Liam Stott led the Vikings’ attack with two goals and one assist, while Deegan Ash added one goal, five ground balls, and a forced turnover. Pleasant Grove will face No. 7 Judge Memorial in the next round.
Payson 10, Woods Cross 4
No. 13 Payson defeated No. 20 Woods Cross 10-4 in a region matchup. Scott Rasmussen scored three goals, and Austin Ewell had one goal and three assists. Goalkeeper Talan Hardy made 10 saves as Payson rallied in the second half. Next up for Payson is No. 4 Wasatch.
Northridge 10, Maple Mountain 0
No. 16 Northridge shut out No. 17 Maple Mountain 10-0. Senior Micah Olsen led with four goals and two assists, and sophomore Brekken Green added two goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Daxton Kendall recorded a shutout with eight saves, supported by Jack Hall’s defensive effort (four ground balls, four caused turnovers, one assist). Northridge advances to face No. 1 Park City.
West Field 18, Roy 5
No. 9 West Field overpowered No. 24 Roy 18-5 in a nonregion playoff game. Coopers Horspool netted six goals, while Lincoln Miller added four goals and two assists. West Field will face No. 8 Olympus in the second round.
Skyline 23, Springville 11
No. 18 Skyline defeated No. 15 Springville 23-11. Duncan Monahan starred with six goals and six assists. For Springville, Andrew Robinson had four goals and one assist, while Lance Stewart and Creed Condie combined for seven goals and three assists. Skyline advances to face No. 2 Brighton.
East 20, Viewmont 4
No. 12 East dominated No. 21 Viewmont 20-4. East moves on to face No. 5 Bountiful in the second round.
Box Elder 20, Hillcrest 3
Logan Preslar scored four goals, and Will Ferry added three goals and an assist as No. 11 Box Elder rolled past No. 22 Hillcrest 20-3. Box Elder led from the start and will face No. 6 Timpview next.
4A First Round
Dixie 9, Pine View 3
Ryan Turman scored four goals and added an assist, leading No. 12 Dixie to a 9-3 win over No. 21 Pine View. Caleb Field contributed two assists and nine ground balls. Dixie advances to face No. 5 Sky View.
Canyon View 10, Orem 9
No. 16 Canyon View edged No. 17 Orem 10-9. Gavin Tanner, Mikah Potter, and Beckham Dittmar each scored two goals, with Dittmar netting the game-winner with about three minutes left. Goalkeeper Kohen Carlson made 17 saves, including his 800th career save and a crucial last-second stop. Canyon View will face No. 1 Juan Diego.
Crimson Cliffs 20, Desert Hills 0
No. 14 Crimson Cliffs shut out No. 19 Desert Hills 20-0. Aydan Vidrio led with six goals and three assists, while West Secrist added five goals and two assists. Crimson Cliffs advances to face No. 3 Bear River. Desert Hills ends its season at 2-12.
Hurricane 12, Cedar City 8
Parley Watts and Brecken Michler each scored five goals as No. 15 Hurricane defeated No. 18 Cedar 12-8. Hurricane took an early lead and never looked back, advancing to face No. 2 Waterford.
Jordan 13, Mountain View 2
Dash May had two goals and four assists, recording his 100th career point, as No. 13 Jordan beat No. 20 Mountain View 13-2. After an early deficit, Jordan’s defense held the Bruins scoreless for three quarters. Jordan advances to face No. 4 Green Canyon.
