Kyoei University, who had been one win away from claiming their first league title in four seasons since spring 2024, suffered a shutout loss to Ryutsu Keizai University, 8-0, on Sunday. The outcome of the Tokyo Shindai University Baseball Spring League will now be decided in the final week starting May 16.

After winning the first game of the sixth week on Saturday, Kyoei needed just one more victory to secure the championship. However, they suffered back-to-back defeats, dropping a match point for the first time this season. If they can take the series against Tokyo International University in the final week, they will claim the league title and earn a spot in the All-Japan University Baseball Championship (June 8-14 at Jingu Stadium and Tokyo Dome).
“Of course there is pressure, but getting that last win is never easy. We’ve experienced similar situations before, and we still have a game next week. We lost today because of errors, so we’ll fix those and stake everything on the final game,” said head coach Takahisa Arai.
