Barcelona midfielder Pedri revealed that the squad was driven to defeat Real Madrid in Sunday’s El Clasico as a tribute to head coach Hansi Flick, who suffered the loss of his father just before the crucial match. A minute’s silence was observed at the stadium, and the players wore black armbands in his honor.
The Catalans secured a 2-0 victory, clinching another La Liga title. After the final whistle, Pedri dedicated the triumph to Flick’s father. “We wanted to claim the title here, in a Clasico, and now it’s part of history,” he told Movistar. “We played an outstanding match. This has never been done before—it’s incredible. Now we celebrate with our families and fans because this doesn’t happen every day. We wanted to do it for Flick, given the loss he has endured. This victory is also dedicated to his father.”
Pedri, who delivered another stellar performance on an emotional night for Flick and the Barcelona family, was named MVP of the match.
