Blanca Hervás emerged as a standout star for Spanish athletics. After finishing sixth in the individual 400m final, she played a crucial role in the mixed 4x400m relay—an event making its debut at this championship—and repeated her heroics in the women’s long relay. The national team clocked 3:26.04 to return to the podium, trailing only the unbeatable United States and the Netherlands, who claimed silver by a mere four hundredths of a second.

Paula Sevilla, a semifinalist at this championship, handed off first to Ana Prieto in fourth place. At that stage, Poland had overtaken the U.S., as did the Netherlands. Prieto then passed to Rocío Arroyo, still in fourth, with the Americans leading and both the Dutch and Poles ahead of Spain. That set the stage for the final leg, run by Blanca Hervás.

With a furious burst of speed on the outside track, covering extra distance, she managed to overtake the Polish athlete and secure the bronze medal.
